Where It All Begins
The process generally begins with selecting the right materials for the piece. In my travels around the Puget Sound area I have discovered wood at large commercial milling companies, small, privately owned backyard sawmills, shops specializing in specific wood varieties as well as in garages. The search is part of the fun and, more importantly can, and will, define what the eventual piece becomes.

Evolution of an Oak Wine Barrel
Living in wine country presents its own special opportunities. With 130+ winery tasting rooms, several who bottle locally, the oak wine barrel is a commodity worth exploring. Recently I have started to “recycle” barrels into their components and create votive holders from the staves and and table pieces from the heads. The oak staves and the shape the barrels give them make them beautiful in their own right.

Art Glass Pieces
The colors and grain of the various woods are often spectacular in their own right. On one excursion for wood I happened by a glass studio that had art glass remnants for sale. As I admired both the colors and the shapes of the glass I couldn’t help but think that the combination of the two could yield some unique and interesting pieces. I continue to try different combinations of glass and wood and burls that provided additional interest as well. I continue to experiment and explore with these pieces. The fun part is … no two will ever be the same!

Custom & Commissioned Work
Have your own idea or space to fill? Commissioned work is as unique as your own imagination. Matching wood, metal and other materials to realize your idea requires a discussion. Bring sketches, dimensions, photos, etc. to an agreed upon consultation meeting and let’s discuss the possibilities. A reasonable hourly fee will be charged for the consultation.

Custom Charcuterie Boards
Food choices and preparation for charcuterie events reflect individual tastes for food content paired with a beautiful layout. Building that layout can be as grand, or as simple, as you desire. NW Creative Woodworking believes that the board itself should also be an expression of the creativity of the host / chef.
Browse this gallery for some ideas that I have utilized and be inspired to create your own unique boards as well. Enjoy!
